                  Abstract: Objective In order to improve the anticorrosive property of alkyd varnish,a cotton-
             like  nano  Co O   corrosion  inhibitor  was  prepared.  Methods The  cotton-like  nano-Co O was

             characterized  by  scanning  electron  microscopy(SEM),X-ray  powder  diffractometer(XRD) and

             infrared spectrometer(FT-IR),espectively. The performance of the alkyd coating with the addition of
             cotton-like nano-Co O  was tested by polarization curve,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy,salt

             water immersion corrosion test and water absorption rate test. Results The corrosion current density of

             pure alkyd coating was 42. 24 μA/cm ,and the corrosion current density was 1. 02-1. 56 μA/cm  when
             the mass fraction of cotton-like nano-Co O  in the varnish was 0. 12%-0. 25%;the composite coating

             was only slightly corroded,while the pure alkyd coating was very seriously corroded after 20 d salt water
             immersion corrosion test;he water absorption rate of the composite coating was reduced to about 4%,

             while the absorption rate of the pure alkyd coating was more than 12%. Conclusion The cotton-like
             Co O  nanomaterial could significantly improve the anticorrosion performance of alkyd varnish.
